I tried Crossfit… (and survived)

Instead of going to Xtreme Bootcamp this weekend, I tried out a free WOD {that’s the acronym for “workout of the day”}.

Crossfit WOD

I just found out about a local Crossfit box in my area and decided to take the free WOD to see what the sport is like. Made some wheat toast slathered with peanut butter and was on my way! I almost didn’t go because of fear, but was glad that there were 2 other newcomers there.

It’s tough like Xtreme Bootcamp but I liked it better.

Warm-up definitely warmed you up:

    • 15 pushups
    • bear-crawl (across the room)
    • 15 sit-ups
    • 250m row

then do it 3 times

But then the active warm-up (yes, another warm-up) was a 1000m (fire) hose carry. Wooh-wee! Ever carry a fire house? And run with it? That was not easy!

Then the WOD was:

    • 400m sandbag carry (40lbs)
    • double unders
    • burpee/pull-ups

Team of 3 for 25 minutes. As soon as one team mate got back with the sandbag run, you switched it up.

I was pumped this morning! Granted my push-ups were modified, but I did all 45 of them in my warm-up with stealth (which means I am definitely getting stronger)!

Am I hooked on Crossfit? Not sure. I would like to try out the weight training portion of it. It’s $150/month for unlimited access. And it seems to be a pretty big sport in my area {had NO idea}! So, I am weighing the pros & cons.

BTW, Burpees are still NOT MY FRIEND. But I did 49 of them!

Breakfast

Man, was I craving the protein shake afterwards! So, I tell you a little about my Crossfit experience and show you how to make my favorite protein smoothie in this video. It’s like ice cream for breakfast. Nom Nom! The recipe is posted at the end of the video.

Shopping

Then the daughter and I went girl shopping at the mall & did lunch. The mall crowds on a Saturday are crazy!

The apes say “hi” (rainforest cafe)

We split a Bacon Chicken Sandwich. And I seemed to be hooked on Water + Lemon. Never liked it before. Don’t know why the change. Now that I think of it, I have been craving a lot of citrus lately. Anyone know why this might be?

I love that saying, “Strong is the New Beautiful”. I actually picked up a pair of workout capris and a small gym bag to hold my phone, water bottle, keys and towel.

Did I tell you that I am currently really tired out and sore from Crossfit? haha.

I was discussing this with my husband, if you could only pick one, what type of cuisine could you live on? Mine would be Mexican. And that’s just what I had for dinner. ;)

  1. Congrats! I caught your link at Running Rachel. I love Crossfit. I like that you go in and kill or be killed by the WOD and that’s your day. lol – I hope you stick with it because you will see some really amazing progress in your abilities. Best of luck.

    • I am not sure if I am going back due to the cost and time. My gym is 24/7. And I tend to go at about 9pm. Only time I can fit in. However, I do plan on getting some more WODs in at home. I do think I would like the weight training at Crossfit… torn. It would be amazing to be able to do an unassisted pull up and to even think of climbing a rope…

I must say your first CrossFit experience sounds like a close friend of mine. She was beat after, but enjoyed ever second of it.

Even if you had to do a push-up variation that’s fine, you’ll be leaving those in the dust soon. :)

If I had to pick a cuisine to leave on, it would definitely be Italian, Japanese, or German. Hard choice!

Good luck with your CrossFit journey.

Oh, your craving might either be due to a vitamin C deficiency or maybe your body is trying to replace lost salt/electrolytes from excessive sweating?

    • haha. I am still trying to figure out if I enjoy it. ;)

I definitely am getting stronger with the pushups. My modified are really strong. So I think its time to up it, if I do say so myself.

German will make me fat. haha. Well… ya, Italian would too. Have to go with Japanese. I have a better chance maintaining my weight. Quite a variation to cuisine, Michael. haha.

As for the citrus… I never thought about the latter. Thanks for that info! And thanks for stopping by!
