Omron Fat Loss Monitor Review

Omron Fat Loss Monitor

While reading one of my favorite blogs, RunEatRepeat, I discovered this gadget. I had to get one. And I didn’t wait for it in the mail. So, I rushed out to Best Buy and bought it, so it could tell me how fat I am.

The Omron Fat Loss Monitor analyzes two things: Body Fat Percentage and Body Mass Index (BMI). Two of the very things I am keeping track of while following the nutrition guide to Abs Diet for Women.

It’s super easy to use. Comes with the batteries. And can analyze your Fat Loss in two modes: Normal or Athlete. The instructions even give you a chart to figure out which category you fall in. These instructions are definitely way easier to read than the ones that came with the Omron Heart Rate Monitor.

What did the calculated results tell me?

“YOU’RE FAT!” LOL. No, it didn’t tell me that. Actually, I was quite pleased with the progress results (they fell in normal range).

First thing in the morning (right out of bed and heading for coffee), I took this baby for a spin. Actually you just stand very still with your arms straight out in front of you, and hold the monitor as instructed. In just a few seconds you get the results.

I compared those results to my personal log sheet. The BMI is the one point different than what I had a few weeks ago. But the Body Fat count… I am way more pleased with. Because previously, the girl at the gym took my calibrated measures I was wearing clothes. And I didn’t feel it was an accurate count.

The instructions tell you the best time to measure your Fat Loss. And what conditions might effect your count. Overall I am very happy with it!

BTW, it holds 9 profiles. Meaning you can measure you husband, your mom, and your friends. ;)

Southern California Hail

In other news… the summer like weather, here in Southern California, has ended for now. And we received the other extreme – hail.

Sounds like a great night for the hubs and I to enjoy a log in the fireplace and a hot cup of tea. The other plus to rain is the rainbow.

And in this pic, above, it’s right over the Miller Brewing Factory. ;)

What’s your favorite relaxing thing to do when you’re stuck indoors from bad weather?

  1. I really want one of those. I have one of those scales that’s supposed to tell you fat percentage and it varies widely, which I find really annoying.

  2. Glad you wrote about this…I’ve been contemplating getting one just because the last time I had my body fat measured I was 14. Slightly outdated ;) I was always skeptical of those things though because I didn’t (and still don’t) understand how holding something with your hands is getting an accurate reading of the fat on your entire body! But it’s good to hear someone say they liked it and think it to be fairly accurate.

    • I was wondering the same when I got it. Here is what Omron has to say,
      “Estimated Body Fat Percentage
Hydrodensitometry, or underwater weighing, has been the established method for accurate
evaluation of body composition. Omron has used research information from several
hundred people using the underwater method to develop the formula by which the Fat
Loss Monitor works. The body fat mass and body fat percent is calculated by a formula
that includes five factors: electric resistance, height, weight, age, and gender.”

The fact that it was close to the figures I previously have. I am swayed to think it works as long as you keep the batteries fresh. ;)

  3. I love gadgets and I would love to get this, but I am terrified of what it would say!!

  4. We must live close to each other – I’m close to Irwindale too. ;) That thing looks pretty cool – I would love to know my stats.

    • Ya, another neighbor. I actually have an hour commute, but used to live in Glendora. I will have to keep you in mind if we ever do a So Cal health/fitness meet up. There are a few of us.

I was happy to see the stats comparable to what was on my log. So, to me… it works great. Now to get that body fat count down… (probably doesn’t help I am drinking a low fat mocha)

      • I would love that. I haven’t met any other local bloggers. =)

I’ve never had my body fat measured other than using an online calculator with measurements at the beginning of my weight loss journey. It wasn’t pretty. I’m really considering getting one of those though – job first though. LOL.

  6. #1: Are you out in east LA County?
#2: Omron is the company that makes that great heart rate monitor we reviewed, so I’m sure it’s a great product.
#3: Does it tell you “Your fat” or “Youre fat” as there’s an insult in only one of those?
#4: We had the same weather up here in Santa Barbara, complete with frost this morning.

And a P.S. Are you ever free to explain the first few possibilities for why we can’t get our latest post to show here (from that CommentLuv link you sent us), as our web people bailed on us and don’t respond? Thanks.
