During the day I did get in a 1/2 hour bike ride. And worked on muscle building arms with the dumbells (cuz I have no arm strength!). But in the morning it was all about spending a day at the apple orchards with the girls.
The girls in my family (mom, me and my daughter) spend the morning apple picking at Riley’s Apple farm. And it was the end of the season. But no doubt, it was still a fun day.
Start at the General Store and you saw apple cinnamon jam, apple butter, pumpkin butter… Of course, I bought me some apple cinnamon jelly. Can’t wait to try it! Thinking crackers, neufatel cheese, and jam. Mmm….
Since its dawning into October, there were such pretty squashes and gourds in the front of the store.
And Indian corn. Did your parents every decorate the house with Indian corn during Thanksgiving? Memory at my mom’s house while growing up.
Below is the field where they have colonial crafts – like candle making, spinning wool – later in the day. I just thought it was a cool Blacksmith building. Beyond that shed is the berry vines.
Now its time to hike up to the apple trees. See the girlie up ahead?
Unfortunately, there is only one week left for crop picking. I didn’t realize. So the crops were bare or over-ripe.
But we still snagged a few good ones. Those are Fuji apples below.
Here is my pickins. A couple baking apples and then the rest are good for eating. Thinking of making my quick microwave baked apple slices to go with dinner this week.
Now its time to pick raspberries and blackberries. That sun coming thru felt so good. It was a perfect day. Glad we got their early because it was packed when we left!
This is only the start of my basket. Do blackberries ripen off the vine. If not, I picked to soon. But I did get a whole good basket of raspberries. Watch out, the stems have stickers. But eaten off the vine…. yum!
