Dinner

Last night’s dinner was tasty. Even my son loved it. Roasted cauliflower in garam marsala, a mandarin, sauteed spinach in olive oil and red pepper flakes, and a beef slider with avocado & purple onion. So yum! And so fulfilling.

Have you tried Skinny Cow? The awesome delicious taste of a full dessert without the loaded calories & fat. Last night, I opted for the chocolate ice cream sandwich. So good! And my ‘diet’ plan tells me to eat them.
Breakfast

I saw a tweet this morning from Bobbie (@nhershoes) about a smoothie she was having. And I decided at that moment, it was going to be breakfast. Especially because I was in a hurry.
Protein shake: 1 cup coconut milk, 1 banana, 1 cup ice, 1 scoop of protein powder
Snack will be a bowl of Coach’s Oats w/ 1/2c of cottage cheese.
Lunch

I am loving all the pictures you are sharing for the What’s in Your Packed Lunch Giveaway. Great healthy lunches! Yay!
I had to take a picture of my salad before I shook it up and looked like a mess. Today’s lunch is a red leaf lettuce salad with craisins, garbanzo beans, little avocado, Mrs Dash, purple onion and tomato. And a mandarin for a side.
Snack: 1/2 serving of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer in Berry
Tonight’s Dinner: Brown Rice & Chicken w/ Red Curry Sauce. Served with a side of _______ (carrots, brussels sprouts, snap peas, or broccoli) << which do I chose? my fridge is stocked with all of them.
Bootcamp

Many of you might know that I participate in Xtreme Bootcamp during the weekend – its 1 1/2 hours long!. This week I didn’t do too well ( in my standards ) because I had to step out frequently due to becoming light-headed and experiencing near dizzy spells. I blame it on my diet and wasn’t eating enough for the fear of eating the wrong foods to optimally benefit my weight training (should I be eating this hamburger bun? Is it too many carbs? What’s the sugar ratio in this? Is it good for me?). IMO, the Body for Life book isn’t real clear on nutritional meals and guidelines (but great on exercise). I need something more.
So my trainer, Manny, told me to read the Abs Diet for Women. I love this book for its nutritional plan! It even offers Sidekicks (other good substitutions) and Imposters (the don’t go there) for each superfood group that should be in your diet.
And the guidelines are real easy for the Abs Diet is real easy:
Incorporate two or three of these {super} foods into each of your three major meals and at least on of them into each of your three snacks.
Thus I created excel sheet to color code – for visual reference – that I am getting the requirements above and am using MyFitnessPal (again) to track my protein consumption. Easy peasy.
And I also found out, that starving your self of calories causes you to lose not just fat, but muscle, too. And if you are trying to weight train (or just in general), this is Not a good thing.
Make it a great day! And go check out Jenn’s site for more awesome What I Ate Wednesday links!

Nice eats! Looks clean, filling, and delish! I say go for the snap peas tonight – sounds good with curry to me.
And don’t you love how you can be inspired to eat something or move more because of Twitter? I love it.
Have a great day, Christine!
Oh – and I love hearing about your bootcamp exploits – intense and an awesome thing to be involved in. The light-headedness is often normal if your heart rate is sky rocketing and you’re really pushing; could be your diet, could be getting into that anaerobic state too. But it’s good you thought to think through what you were or were not eating -a great place to start. I love the thoughts from the Ab book – getting superfoods in each meal. I like that because it’s simple, it’s involving real foods, and it’s manageable as opposed to overhauling your entire diet. Will have to look into that – thanks for the tip!

2 for snap peas! (I got one vote on Twitter).
I hate & love the bootcamp all in the same breath. LOL. It could have been the heat, too (like 80s – where is winter?), but I didn’t eat very much the day before. My game just wasn’t in it this weekend, but I tried. Didn’t think about that either – could be the anaerobic state… good thinking.
Aside from that… I really am liking the Abs Diet over the Body for Life in regards to it nutrition plan. Really easy to follow. I am glad Manny told me about the book. And yay for Superfoods!
BTW – I have your email, but have been super busy. I hope to followup on it this weekend and get your blog in gear.

Great idea. Although I can’t vow it would come out the same in low calorie content.
Someone just mentioned about putting Chobani’s Vanilla-Chocolate Chunk in the freezer. Yum. What a simple and fantabulous idea. Now I need to find me some.
I can’t wait to see how you do with your eating plan! And the thing about losing muscle by starving yourself is VERY true. When I first started my weight loss journey, I did it the unhealthy way (by eating barely anything) and ended up losing a LOT of muscle. Now I make sure to always be eating (balanced, of course) to fuel my muscles

Ya, that fact kind of shocked me. Because I know a lot of us fall at one time or another to eating way less calories to try and lose weight. And its just hurting us. They say as a woman gets older she loses more muscle and that is why its important to do some type of weight training to sustain muscle. Love the things I am learning!
And this diet is kick butt. I eat more but cleaner and I’ve already lost 2 lbs. Woo hoo. And my satiety level is top notch & my energy is up. Kudos!
Hello! Thought I’d stop over and give your blog some love as well
I LOVE Skinny Cow products! They’re so good and help crave my chocolate fix when I’d rather be eating a big bowl of gelato or something. It sounds like you’re making some yummy eats!! I can’t wait to snoop around your blog some more!

Well hello my new foodie friend.
Skinny Cow is funny. My husband still can’t believe its ‘good for you’. haha.
When I first started to lose weight I found that following and sticking to an eating plan with the 12 Abs power foods really helped me lose and then maintain a healthy weight and whittled my waist (along with exercise, of course!). However after seeing Forks over Knives, I cut out the dairy foods on the Abs list of 12.

I love the sound of that “eat delicious nutritious foods”. I love my veggies so this is no problem for me. And knowing I can have chocolate milk or Skinny Cow for dessert… sweet!
